Assessment 2 (Group work) Description
Information technology and business are becoming inextricably interwoven. I don’t think anybody can talk meaningfully about one without the talking about the other. Bill Gates- Microsoft
Today, with Information technology (IT) driving constant business transformation, overwhelming organizations with information, enabling 24/7 global operations, and undermining traditional business models, the challenge for business leaders is not simply to manage IT, it is to use IT to deliver business value. IT is now closely integrated within the businesses that IT and business strategy must interact with each other. Nowadays, it’s challenging for a business to gain a competitive advantage without using technology. Therefore, for a business to get the best out of technology, business owners/managers must plan and manage this technology very well.
Based on the lectures, given materials and additional research, the group (of 3-4 students) will be required to work as a project team to develop a business and IT strategic plan for the design and delivery of business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce solutions. This comprehensive assessment would provide you with real-world experience through applied and innovative tasks and with team effort.
For this purpose, your company (in your group of 3-4) is planning to develop an online store for a product of your choice (i.e. clothes, electronics, shoes, books, or a service etc.) that you would like to sell online. E-commerce uses the internet to build and enhance relationships with customers, partners, and other businesses - this can involve processing orders electronically, handling customer service, and cooperating with business partners. You are required to develop a business and IT strategic plan report for the selected idea and evaluate it in terms of the criteria required (see required tasks below). You're just starting, creating a business and IT strategic plan at this stage could help you see the bigger picture and chart a strategic course for future growth. Research your competitors and your customers to identify your competitive advantage.
[Notes: Starting an e-commerce business is hard work with many steps and decisions that need to come together at the right time. The first step to building an e-commerce business is to know what products you want to sell. You’ve found your product, evaluated the potential and sourced your supplier. It’s time to write your plan, but before you get into that, you'll need to research your competition thoroughly. With your competitive research complete, it's now the perfect time to write your plan. A business an IT strategic plan will be your road map that helps bring your ideas and thoughts together. A plan is vital so that you can determine how to move forward best and most effectively compete. (https://www.shopify.com/au/blog/ecommerce-business-blueprint)]
