strongly advised to download your submitted file from the Learning Mall and open it in order to verify the file is readable.

Part Two (Individual Interview):

•    Responses to the questions must be relevant to the questions asked.

•    Students who miss the PPT submission deadline, or have uploaded a file that cannot be opened, will not be permitted to use a PPT, but they may still complete the speaking test.

•    No notes are permitted in the exam room.

Further Details

Preparations:

    Design questionnaire questions.

•    Conduct the questionnaire survey. The suggested minimum number of respondents is 20.

•    Analyse the survey results and generate at least one graph, table, or chart.

•    The first PPT slide must include your full name, ID number, and presentation topic.

•    The PPT should be 6-10 slides long (including title and salutation slides).

•    You must name your PPT file as “Student Name_Student ID number” (e.g. San Zhang_2134567).

•    The presentation should include these main sections: Introduction (research questions/ background/ methodology), Body (results/ description/ interpretation), and Conclusion (with recommendations).

Presentation day:

•    Enter the exam room at the specified time (the exact date and time will be confirmed via E-bridge).

•    There will be one examiner and one student in each exam room.

•    The student ID card will be checked (no proof of ID means the test cannot be taken).

•    The PPT file will be projected on the screen before entry to the exam room.

•    Give a 4 - 5-minute presentation in Part 1.

•    Answer follow-up interview questions for up to 2 minutes in Part 2.

Suggestions and other information:

•    Use a clear structure (introduction, body, conclusion) and signposting language.

•    Use eye contact and body language.

•    Use prosodic features (e.g. intonation, stress) and appropriate pacing.

•    Use clear and correct pronunciation.

•    Use appropriate visuals (e.g. PPT) and language skills when describing charts/ graphs.

•    After the PPT submission deadline, the PPT cannot be deleted, changed, or re-uploaded. No late submissions are allowed. You will need to do the presentation without a PPT if you miss the

deadline, and it will affect your grade.

•    The examiner will download your PPT (remember to include the presentation topic, your full name, and student ID number on the first slide) from the Learning Mall dropbox and have it  displayed on the screen before you enter the room.

•    During the presentation, you will have access to the computer, projector, screen, mouse, PPT clicker, whiteboard, and board markers.

•    If you speak for less than 4 minutes in Part 1, the examiner may say “Have you finished?”.

•    If you do not understand a question or a word in Part 2, you can ask the examiner to repeat the question and/or ask for clarification.

•    If you give a limited response in Part 2, the examiner may encourage you to speak more with follow- up questions, such as “Why?”, “Why not?”, “How?”, or “Can you say more about that?” .
