Construction Estimating and Cost Planning
Assessment 2: Case Study Two (50%)
Due: end of Week 13 (midnight Sunday)
Overview
This assessment will be completed in a group of 3-4 that will be preorganised by teaching staff and located in the groups folder on Blackboard (after week 6 when final student numbers are finalised). You will find that it is best if you adopt a business name. Your company must submit a priced tender summary breakdown, with supporting information to show the client that your company has covered the entire Scope of Works. Your report must justify your costing considerations and your estimating rationales.
Your work must be based on the residential property project documentation provided. These include the following.
· Architectural drawings
· Specific contract conditions
· Specifications
· An Excel spreadsheet with 3 tabs has been provided to assist your pricing. These tabs are labelled (Summary/(template)-estimating sheet/detailed costs)
You will need to carefully consider the specific contract conditions/specifications/drawings as these will affect your pricing. The design component of the project has been sub-contracted to a nominated design company; now supplied in the form. of Architectural drawings. Your company is responsible for preparing a tender summary breakdown and supporting information.
Price the tender summary breakdown.
Complete your tender with the associated supporting information using the excel spreadsheet to show your workings. You are required to do detailed costs on the earthworks/concrete and masonry ONLY (found in the 3rd tab of the spreadsheet provided.
Please refer to the project drawings/specific contract conditions and specifications available in the Assessment 2 folder. It is not uncommon due to time constraints for documentation to be sent out for tendering with missing, conflicting or erroneous information. As part of your final submission, you will need to list these anomalies and errors found in the documentation and make your own assumptions and price the assumptions as you have listed them.
Example- you have NOT been provided with a detailed set of engineered drawings. You will use your knowledge of the construction process and other sources of information to assume the specifications for the reinforced concrete slab for the ground floor and first floor where pertinent information has not been provided elsewhere.
Deliverables of the Final Submission
Your group must submit a tender submission in report form. that containing the following deliverables.
· Introduction to your company (summary of your team and their capabilities)
· Tender summary
· Assumptions (including details of contradictions/errors in documents/missing information and the way you have approached the pricing of these assumptions.
This single document finalising your groupwork will be submitted to the “Turnitin link for final assessment” in the assessment 2 folder for review of AI use and similarity (plagiarism).
You will also submit this document in addition to your pricing excel spreadsheet with the summary/template/detailed costs into the “group presentation final” link in the assessment 2 folder. These two documents will be the basis of your group mark.
Group-Work
It is expected that you will all contribute equally to this assessment. If you are having difficulties with particular group members you will first attempt to work this out cooperatively and as a last resort, contact your teaching staff for assistance (It is advised to keep records of your communication for teaching staff to review). Whilst you will not be marked on your participation you will be penalised marks if you do not contribute/communicate in a professional manner that would be equivalent to industry work practices. Individual work will not be approved without extreme mitigating circumstances.
