Communication and Collaboration is a practical, hands-on paper designed to equip students with the essential skills of effective communication and teamwork. Throughout the course, students will engage in real-world assessments, learning how to convey ideas clearly, listen actively, and work collaboratively across various contexts. By honing these skills, students will be better prepared to navigate and succeed in today’s interconnected and team-oriented work environments. This paper not only builds confidence in personal expression but also cultivates an understanding of the dynamics that drive successful collaboration.
A core part of this paper is teaching you how to communicate ideas effectively to groups. This is to help you throughout your MBM, where you will be expected to present regularly.
How this paper will be taught
This class is taught with an active-learning philosophy.
This means that a lot of your learning depends on your engagement with the materials, your lecturer, and your peers. You will prepare for sessions by reading/watching/absorbing prescribed articles, case studies, videos, TED talks, and other resources, and thinking about the issues raised in them. Each three-hour session will be a blend of lecturing, workshop activities, discussions, and more. It is expected that every student will prepare for every session ahead of time and engage productively in activities and discussions in the session. Engagement doesn’t mean that you have to be loud or take the spotlight, but it does mean that you have to pay attention and participate.
Class will be held in-person at Waikato University, with Zoom recordings for students unable to attend due to illness or personal circumstances.
There are group presentations throughout this course that must be done in person.
