This is a research-based written assessment. Cite current (published within the last 5 years), relevant and reliable publications (articles, books, reports, magazines, lecture materials, websites, etc.) using APA referencing style. when answering the below assessment questions. The word limit, the number of minimum citations required and the marks allocated are given against each question. Use figures, tables, photos where appropriate to support your answers.
2. Important notes
Keep a backup of all your work – you will not be given an extension if you lose your work have your computer stolen/crashed.
Extensions to the due date for the assessment are only given for genuine reasons such as sickness or a family crisis. The proof is required in a medical certificate or family death notice. If there is no proof, then no extension will be given.
There is a 3 marks per day late penalty, and work submitted more than 7 days late will not receive any marks.
Plagiarism will be penalised. The report will go through Turnitin, which will check for any copied material. Avoid bulk quotes – write in your own words. Do not copy from other students. Do not lend your report file to anyone else. Where 2 student reports have identical material, both students will be penalised. If the report is plagiarised, the work will be given no marks, and the student may be reported for academic misconduct.

3. Assessment questions
1. Explain the importance of construction equipment in residential, commercial, industrial and highway construction projects (300-word limit, 10 marks).
2. Describe the functional applications of three selected typical construction equipment used in residential, commercial, industrial and highway construction projects. Give examples to support your answer (500-word limit, 20 marks).
3. Explain the importance of sustainable construction equipment management in line with the UN’s sustainable development goals (consider life cycle thinking). Give examples to support your answer. (300-word limit, 10 marks).
4. List environmental, social, and economic criteria for selecting onsite construction equipment (select at least 5 criteria for each environmental, social and economic aspect of sustainability) (300-word limit, 10 marks).
5. Describe processes/systems used to achieve environmental, social, and economic sustainability of construction equipment utilisation. Include at least 3 processes/systems for each aspect of sustainability. Give examples to support your answer (500-word limit, 20 marks).
6. Produce an equipment plan for the given case study (please refer to the assessment resources folder for more details). In your equipment plan, identify the construction equipment required for the entire project, propose at least three suppliers with your justification for each piece of equipment identified and explain how the selected equipment would achieve sustainability when utilising them (900-word limit, 30 marks).
