You can only use this option if your question has been approved by that date.

Guidance

This assessment allows for alimited/selective usage of generative AI.

When answering your chosen essay question, you should make sure that you reflect on material from the course and wider literature. You should develop an argument based on that reflection that answers the question, drawing on both relevant

literature and theory. When developing your argument, you can use phrases such as “In this essay I will argue that…” Developing a clear argument is important

because it encourages you to narrow down your focus. A well-crafted argument can also help you to engage critically with the module’s key themes, debates, and

literatures. Illustrative examples should be used to support points made.

Guidance on structure

It is up to you how you structure your essay. The goal should be to develop a

structure that best supports your argument. We recommend that you introduce your argument through a thesis statement. A thesis statement frames your

argument in such a way that the reader understands how it relates to the essay question. A thesis statement

makes an argumentative assertion that directly relates to the essay

question; it states the conclusions that you have reached about your topic.

makes a promise to the reader about the scope, purpose, and direction of your paper.

is focused and specific enough to be fully developed within the boundaries of your paper.

is generally located near the end of the introduction.

identifies the relationships between the main components of your argument.

It adheres to the stylistic requirements of academic writing. For example, the argument is nuanced and contextualised. You are not expected to

provesomething to be a statement of fact, but to substantiate why your claim is convincing.

You should focus on fully developing the points and arguments made in the

reflective essay. Given that the essay’s word limit is 3,000 word, be careful not to introduce more concepts, theories and points than you are able to cover.

Your argument should be critical (i.e., nuanced and focused), draw on appropriate materials from class and readings, and be positioned within a set of existing

debates academic debates.

Support

Students will have the option to ask questions during seminars and in the final lecture. For any further questions, students can also book office hour meetings with their module convenor and seminar leader or use the dedicated discussion areas on Keats.

Essay writing tips and a FAQ page with answers to commonly asked questions

about the assessment is available in the section on assessments on the Keats page. The department also runs a weekly Writing Lab where students can learn more

about writing essays, arguments, and thesis statements.

Resit information

Students should revise their original submission in accordance with the marker's comments. Parts that have been changed or added in response to the marker's

comments on the original submission should be highlighted in yellow. The

marker's comments on the original submission should be added as an appendix to the resubmission for the marker of the resubmission to consult.

Students that are taking the reassessment should contact either module convenor to arrange a meeting in their office hour, to discuss the feedback received on the original submission and how to address that feedback in the resubmission.
