CBE 9112 Design and Analysis Principles
Simulation Assignment # 1
Due: October 11th, 2024 (submit in OWL)
Include the following:
a) Hysys simulation file for each problem (you may simulate all problems in one file for your convenience)
b) Clearly report your answers either in the Hysys file itself or in a Word document
Problem 1:
The stream whose composition is given in the table below is to be pumped from 25 to 100 psi. The inlet temperature is -10 °C. Use the pump block to calculate the energy required if the pump’s efficiency is 80%. What is the outlet temperature?

Problem 2:
Water at 25°C and 2.5 atm pressure is being transferred with a 2 hp pump that is 75% efficient at a rate of 15 m3/h to a storage tank 20 m high. All the pipes are 4-inch, schedule 40, mild steel, except for the last section, a 2-inch. There are three standard 90° elbows and one reducer to connect the 2-inch pipe (115 m long), as shown in the Figure below. Find out the pressure drop across the system.
Suggested Fluid package: ASME Steam
